Fetching the latest fire danger and ban data.
South Australia's fire restrictions are managed by the Country Fire Service (CFS) under the Fire and Emergency Services Act 2005. SA is characterised by a unique focus on proximity to buildings (the 15m rule), a structured Schedule 9/10 permit system, and a mandatory Grain Harvesting Code of Practice with legally enforceable GFDI thresholds.
Common activities and their restrictions.
Gas & Electric BBQs (Near Home)
Allowed within 15 metres of a domestic or commercial premises, with 4m clearance of all flammable vegetation, a responsible person (18+) present, and an appropriate extinguisher or water supply at hand.
Gas & Electric BBQs (Coastal)
Also permitted on a coastal foreshore, subject to the same 4m clearance and adult supervision rules.
Comfort Fires (Fire Danger Season, Non-TFB)
SA explicitly legislates "comfort fires" for warmth. Legal during the Fire Danger Season (not on TFB days) if in a 30cm-deep trench or permanent fire pit with 4m clearance.
Solid Fuel BBQs (Fire Danger Season, Non-TFB)
Kettle-type BBQs (e.g., Webers) are permitted during the Fire Danger Season when it is NOT a TFB day, provided 4m clearance and adult supervision rules are followed.

Green Waste Burning (Non-Ban)
Prohibited during the Fire Danger Season without a Schedule 9 permit from the local council. Burning green fuel is discouraged due to excessive smoke. Some metro councils have implemented total bans on open fires for waste disposal.
Solid Fuel Appliances (Including Webers)
Kettle-type BBQs (Webers), wood, charcoal, and all solid fuel appliances are strictly prohibited on TFB days unless the user holds a Schedule 10 permit (generally reserved for emergencies only).
Comfort Fires & Campfires
Completely banned on TFB days, regardless of whether they are in a trench or fire pit.
Fireworks
Banned without a specific permit.
BBQs Away From Premises
Any BBQ operated more than 15m from a domestic/commercial premises or not on a coastal foreshore is prohibited on TFB days.
